Internet Access in Alonnisos
To check your email or surf the Web while on Alonnisos you have these four options (not in any order of preference):
First, on the main street leading up from the port of Patitiri (when standing in front of the harbor with your back to the sea, the street is to your right) there is an Internet Cafe (see outside view to your right) on the right side of the street about one-half kilometer from the water. Generally, it's open most daytime hours and into the latter part of the evening as well (perhaps up to 10PM or later during the high season). In the summer of 2010 the cost was one
Euro for every 15 minutes.
There are perhaps seven to nine PCs available (see photo to your left), all with high-speed Internet access, and Wi-Fi access is available for portable PCs with wireless functionality. The proprietor's name is Alexandra, and though she speaks just a small amount of English I never have any trouble communicating with her. In fact, she is always very friendly to Andrea and me.
Second, at a point where the main road down to Patitiri harbor intersects with a road that connects with another that leads to the Old Village, there is a business called TechnoKids that also offers high-speed Internet access. I personally haven't used their services but I know many who do, and they speak very highly of the proprietor, Jimmy. It is my understanding that Wi-Fi access is also available at this location, and that if anyone ever has technical problems with a PC while on the island, Jimmy is "the" guy to see for assistance.
Third, along the harbor front in Patitiri there is Wi-Fi access that was installed during 2009. I know for certain that one "hot spot" is available at one of my favorite restaurants, the Anais Cafe (see photo to your right).
Fourth, in the Old Village, just steps from where the bus drops off passengers from Patitiri, there is a beautiful restaurant and cafe called Panselinos that offers Wi-Fi access to customers. During my 2009 and 2010 trips I saw plenty of folks with laptops sitting in the restaurant and also in a seating area across the street.
